Ian Desmond, Head Coach

​Ian is a former Major League Baseball player known for his versatile play as a shortstop, outfielder, and occasional first baseman. Ian was drafted by the Montreal Expos (now Washington Nationals) in the 3rd round of the 2004 MLB Draft out of Sarasota High School. He made his MLB debut with the Nationals in 2009 and played 11 seasons across three teams: the Washington Nationals (2009–2015), Texas Rangers (2016), and Colorado Rockies (2017–2019).A two-time MLB All-Star (2012, 2016) and three-time Silver Slugger Award winner (2012–2014), Desmond was a dynamic, power-hitting infielder/outfielder with solid speed. Over his career, he batted .263 with 1,432 hits, 181 home runs, 711 RBIs, 724 runs scored, and 181 stolen bases in 1,478 games. His best seasons came with the Nationals, where he consistently delivered 20+ home runs and strong offensive production at shortstop. Desmond retired from MLB in 2020 and now serves as the Head Coach of Lakewood Ranch High School.​​​
